Department of Exceptional Children

The Department of Exceptional Children provides programs and services for students who have learning needs that lie outside the usual range of instructional differentiation provided in general education classrooms.. 
English Language Learners
The Covington Independent English Language Learner Program is designed to assist students with limited English proficiency to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language and to meet challenging state content goals to close the gap between limited English proficient students and other students. Limited English proficient students are given instruction to successfully attain English and participate in all-English classrooms. 

Gifted and Talented
Covington Independent Public Schools identifies and serves gifted youth within to ensure an appropriate level of instruction to reach the potential of each student. High potential learners at the primary level and identified gifted students in grades four through twelve are provided services to differentiate their instruction, therefore, meeting their individual needs.
