Programs & Services

Medications may only be given at school when prescribed by a physician. This includes over-the-counter medications. If your child needs any medication while at school, you need to contact your physician to obtain an order. Medication order forms are available from the school nurse.
All medications must be brought to school in the original container with prescription label. When obtaining medications for school, request a second bottle from the pharmacy.
All medications are to be kept in the health office unless the physician’s order specifies that the student is to carry the medication.

Vision Screenings: Students in grades 1, 3, 5, as well as once in middle school and once in high school. Vision screenings are currently being completed by volunteers from Luxottica/Community Vision Care. The school nurse may complete the screening if a student is absent when the volunteers come to each school.
Hearing screenings: Students in grade K, 1, and 3.
Height and Weight (BMI) Measurements: All preschool, elementary, and 6th grade students

Emergency Care
At least one adult certified in standard first aid and CPR is present in every school at all times. Please be sure that the school has a current telephone number to contact a parent/guardian or other designated person in case of sudden illness or injury.
Dental Sealants The Northern Kentucky Health Department offers dental sealants to all second grade students. Forms will be sent home prior to the health department’s visit to each school. The child is screened by a dentist and then sealants are applied by a dental hygienist. You must return the permission slip for the student to participate.

Each school has a school nurse. They are available to assist with any medical needs that might impact a student’s education. Please feel free to contact the school nurse at any time for assistance.

School Based Health Center
Health Point Family Care operates a School Based Health Center in each school. The center provides physicals, gives immunizations and treats sick students. If you would like to take advantage of the services that the School Based Health Center provides, please contact your school nurse. Parents/guardians do not need to be present for students to receive services at school; however, if you wish to present, contact the school nurse to arrange a specific appointment time.

*Additional health services opportunities may be available for students throughout the school year. You will be notified of any additional health services opportunities, and you will receive consent forms for participation, if required.
