Three Governor's Scholars

Governor's Scholars

Three Holmes High School students have been selected to the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program. Majdaah Salaah, Catherine Brown, and Julio Ramirez, juniors at Holmes, will participate in the competitive summer class that provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience.

The students are excited to have been selected to the program that started in 1983. According to the Governor’s Scholars website, the program was started as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home. The scholars will be hosted by Morehead State University in Morehead, Murray State University in Murray, and Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights.

The program’s mission is to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. The first class numbered 230 and was housed on one college campus. Since then, the program has enjoyed excellent support and grown to over 1,000 students on three campuses.
