As part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, Holmes High School senior Brian Benito is spending his senior year in Kirchzarten, Germany.

The Covington Rotary Club offered the opportunity to rising juniors and seniors from Holmes and Covington Latin. The club chose Brian for the program based on an application process of written letters and interviews.

Brian is an honor student in the International Baccalaureate program and also a member of the varsity soccer team. He left for Germany earlier this month and will return home in mid-June.

"Like any senior, I will surely miss my friends and Ms. Zaino's bright smile when I walk into her room in the morning. I am also going to miss Mrs. Lorenz, graduating with my class, and 'turning up' with my soccer team on the bus after late night soccer games," said Brian.

While he is looking forward to meeting the other exchange students from around the world and learning the culture, Brian is also hoping to become fluent in the German language before he returns home.

"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get, and I surely grabbed the best piece of chocolate. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I think any student who has a chance like this would take it. It's also a chance to start fresh with new people, and hopefully I get a chance to learn who I really am," he added.
