On Friday, May 3rd, Ms. Threet, Mrs. Watts, and Mrs. McMullen chaperoned twenty-eight 7th graders to the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Students were chosen based on anonymous proposals sent in to our Resident Artist, who chose six proposals from each of Ms. Threet's five classes. The proposals included reasons why the student should be chosen to attend; what they learned while the Resident Artist was teaching in classroom; and how they can apply what they learned to projects in the future.
We arrived at the Art Academy at 9 am, and went straight to work learning to write poetry. Students got to set up their poems in an installation, that would be on display that night at the 150th Anniversary Block Party for the Art Academy. Students got to tour the art gallery and several street art murals around downtown. Each piece had it's own story.
The students had a great time; it showed on their smiling faces! Ms. Threet is excited to see this relationship between HMS and The Art Academy continue and flourish in the coming years.
