Covington Independent Public Schools will be able to provide more help for families during the COVID-19 crisis, thanks to donations from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kentucky Medicaid.

Seven Family Resources and Youth Services Centers in Covington are among the 100 from across the state to receive $500 each from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The funds are to be used to help provide essential items for families in need such as food, hygiene items, rent assistance, utility assistance, and supplies and activities that support learning while children are home from school during the COVID-19 response.

“This money is so important to our Centers. It allows our schools to better support our families during this truly difficult period,’’ said Dr. Janice Wilkerson, Covington’s assistant superintendent for Student Support. “Many of our students’ parents have lost their jobs and are struggling with basic needs. We are so grateful for the support of Blue Cross and Blue Shield for these additional funds.‘’

Covington centers receiving the funds include Glenn O. Swing, Holmes High School, James E. Biggs Early Childhood Education Center, John G. Carlisle, Latonia Elementary, Ninth District Elementary, and Sixth District Elementary School.
