Covington Independent Public Schools will return to in-person instruction on Monday, November 16, 2020, for families who opted for the hybrid model. Families that selected the Covington Virtual Academy will continue with remote learning.
Students in the A/B learning model will continue with their previous schedule – students in Group A will attend school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students in Group B will attend school in person on Thursdays and Fridays. On days students are not in school, they will work remotely. Families will soon receive an inquiry from the district asking them to select their educational preference for the remainder of the school year.
Covington remains committed to the safety and well-being of every student, employee and members of their families. Since the start of the 2020-2021 school year, we have offered instruction in both the traditional and virtual settings, while continuing to follow the safety protocols outlined by district, state and national health officials.
In making this decision, we looked at the number of COVID-19-related cases in our schools and the educational needs of our students. We know that in-person learning is the best way to educate and meet the social, emotional and mental health needs of our students. We want our students in our schools. We also know that schools are safe places. We will continue to monitor and inform the community of COVID-19 data on the district dashboard, which can be found on our website at www.covington.kyschools.us.
Please note, we are making the most informed decision with the information we have at hand. We know that COVID-19 is unpredictable, which causes constant changes. Please, help us keep cases low and our students in school by following the guidelines offered by the Northern Kentucky Health Department:
- Keep family and social gatherings outdoors
- Stay 6 feet from others
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands
- Stay home when sick
As I close, I want to express my appreciation to our teachers and staff for their commitment to our students. We will continue to strive to provide the best possible education for students in Covington schools. If you should have any questions, please contact your child’s school principal.
Be Safe,
Alvin L. Garrison,
Superintendent
