Covington Independent Public Schools is grateful for the support it has been receiving from community partners this school year - especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our partners have always been generous, but as needs have increased, so has the giving.

Just last week, Dwight Rider and Orlando Dos Santos of the Golden Rule Covington Lodge #109 F&AM, stopped by Central Office with a $3,000 check for Covington’s Family Resource and Youth Services Centers. The check was presented to Dr. Janice Wilkerson, Covington’s assistant superintendent for student support services. 

“This donation is especially important at this time as FRC budgets are not sufficient to meet the many needs of our students and families due to the economic hardships so many are experiencing as a result of the pandemic,’’ Dr. Wilkerson said.

Another donation recently came from Toyota Boshoku America, which contributed Kroger gift cards totaling $1,500. Toyota normally gives food bags, but this year gave gift cards for our schools to have on hand to assist families during the holidays or in time of emergency. The $25 gift cards were distributed to Family Resource Centers and Covington’s alternative programs. Lori Eifert, Covington’s Project Home coordinator, said Toyota has been a wonderful partner for many years, noting that the business always donates school supplies to the district.

Superintendent Alvin L. Garrison said the district is fortunate to be in a community that cares about the well-being of its students.  

“Community partners have also helped monetarily, with school supplies, food, masks and with hats and gloves,’’ Garrison said. “We are so grateful for all that they do. We just can’t thank them enough.”
