Some Covington students returning four days a week beginning March 22

Back to School

In our quest to get students back in our school buildings, Covington Independent Public Schools will begin a phased-in approach to return more children to in-person learning.

Beginning on March 22, students in Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2, 6 and 12, will return to school four days a week - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
All students will be on remote learning on Wednesdays. All other students will continue with their current hybrid A, B schedule.

District families still will have the option to maintain remote-only learning in the Covington Virtual Academy (CVA). However, if CVA parents want their children to return to in-person learning, they must contact their child’s school by Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

The district will evaluate this phase of the plan before determining when other grades will return to four days. When a determination is made, the district will send information to families.

We are excited about our students returning to our schools. Please keep in mind that we all play a role in keeping our schools open. At school, we must wear face coverings, socially distance, wash our hands and cover our coughs and sneezes. We must also monitor our own health and stay home when we are ill.

If you should have questions, please call your child’s principal.

As always, stay safe.

Alvin L. Garrison
Superintendent
