Update: Regarding wearing masks while outside

COVID update

Covington Independent Public Schools has received updated guidance from the Kentucky Department of Education and the state health department regarding wearing a mask while outside. Guidance has not changed for wearing masks inside.

  • Iless than 1,000 people are gathered outside, nobody is required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, and even if 6 ft distance cannot be maintained. Six feet distancing is still recommended outdoors, whenever possible.

  • If more than 1,000 people are gathered outside, masks are still required.

  • It is still recommended that unvaccinated people wear a mask when outside and within 6 feet of others, but this is not required.

  • It is still required for ALL staff and students to wear a mask and practice social distancing while inside our buildings, regardless of vaccination status.

Please continue to remind your staff and students to stay home if they are experiencing ANY COVID 19 symptoms*, if they've tested positive for COVID (or are waiting for their test result), or if they have been exposed to COVID. They must contact the school nurse for next steps before they can return.

*COVID symptoms may include: fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
