October 7, 2021 ~ Last evening, the Covington Board of Education so graciously approved the amending of the district calendar by adding four teacher-planning days. It is a district goal to raise the academic performance of all students and we know that Instructional planning days are vital to improve student outcomes. We also know that we must continue to address student-learning loss caused by COVID-19 pandemic. These additional planning days will provide teachers time to create the most rigorous and engaging instructional units.
The calendar was amended as follows:
Monday, November 1, 2021 - Teacher planning day / No student attendance
Friday, January 14, 2022 - Teacher planning day / No student attendance
Friday, February 11, 2022 - Teacher planning day / No student attendance
Friday, March 11, 2022 - Teacher planning day / No student attendance
On these days, all employees will report to work, while students will remain at home.
During the meeting, the board also adjusted the salary schedule for RANK IV full-time teachers. The change brings the daily rate for RANK IV full-time teachers to $200 for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year. This matches the daily rate of substitute teachers for the 2021-22 school year.
It is our hope that these changes will make a positive difference for our students and employees.
I most certainly thank you for your dedication to our students and your continued support of Covington Independent Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Alvin L. Garrison
Superintendent
