Superintendent

Alvin L. Garrison believes that any school can be successful.   When schools put the needs of students first, establish high expectations and create a positive school culture, they will triumph in achievement.

Mr. Garrison has been modeling that message since he began his educational career as a history teacher in 1995 at North Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.  Over the years, he served as an assistant principal, principal and football and basketball coach.

Before coming to Covington, he was principal of John Hardin High School from 2006-2013. Under his leadership, John Hardin excelled in all aspects of academic achievement – including its graduation rate, ACT scores, NCLB goals and statewide assessments.  John Hardin ranked in the top 13 percent of all high schools in Kentucky during Garrison’s tenure.

Mr. Garrison has been Superintendent of Covington Independent Public Schools since July 2013. He holds a Master’s degree and Rank 1 in Educational Administration, along with other certifications such as Supervisor of Instruction and Director of Pupil Personnel.

Mr. Garrison has received numerous awards and honors including the Kentucky Teacher Leader of the Month by the Kentucky Teacher publication, the Radcliff Optimist Club’s Achievement in Education Award, the Radcliff-Hardin County Chamber of Commerce Education Award, and the 2013 NAACP Judge Larry Smith Humanitarian Award.

Garrison is married to his loving wife, Shannon.
