The Chapman Child Development Center on the Holmes High School campus has a new playground. Demolition on the former 20-year-old playground started in May and after a summer of construction the new playground was completed the beginning of September.
The project included moving and painting existing fences to make larger and more user friendly spaces. The old surfaces were removed and new carpeting was placed under the awnings and a rubber surface was poured from one end of the uncovered playground to the other end. The rubber surface was poured in two different colors to provide a bike trail.
The new equipment includes a puppet stage under the slides, a telescope, buttons that make animal sounds and run on solar power, drums, wave climbers, different level slides and a tube slide. There are also a couple of activity panels.
The toddler playground includes a new climbing and slide structure which includes a wheel to turn and drums. They also have a crawl tube.
There is also a covered area for preschoolers and a larger covered area for infants and toddlers.
