Three teams from Covington schools were honored by the Covington Board of Education Thursday night for their recent successes. The Holmes Middle School Wrestling Team was recognized for its most successful season in program history. The team celebrated a number of accomplishments, including four members of the team competing in the Regional Finals for the first time; six Bulldogs qualified for Middle School State, the most ever to qualify. At the state tournament, the team had two fifth places finishers, Taejuan Huff and Thomas Long. Dashaun Stevenson was a state champion, only the second statewrestling champion in Holmes history. As a team, the Bulldogs earned its first trophy ever at state, placing fourth in the school division and 11th among teams.
The Glenn O. Swing Starz’ Lego Robotics Team was recognized by the board for its first place for ‘Gracious Professionalism: Core Values.’ The team was awarded first place in this category out of 48 teams at the first Lego League Robotics Kentucky State Championships at Northern Kentucky University. The team placed 25th out of 48 teams in the robotics division.
Glenn O. Swing cheerleaders competed in the Northern Kentucky Cheerleading Coaches Association’s competition in January. The team finished first place in the elementary division and won the elementary/ middle school spirit award.
