Kentucky Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton visited Glenn O. Swing Elementary School for a Black History Month Presentation on her life and success as an African-American woman. On November 3, 2015, Lt. Governor Hampton became the first African-American to be elected to a statewide office.
After the presentation, she conducted a question and answer session with the fourth-grade students. Lt. Governor Hampton told the students how important it is to do your best in school and get a well-rounded education. When she was in high school, she was positive she wanted to be an accountant, so when she went to college for engineering, she did not feel as prepared as she could have been. She also told the students that while she did not participate in organized sports growing up, she did like to read a lot, and that they should participate in what they enjoy and what helps them grow as a person.
At the end of the event, the students presented Lt. Governor Hampton with a small gift and thanked her for her visit.
