Important Information for Holmes High School Students

Students and Families,

We are so excited for the 2022-2023 school year, and we can’t wait to see all of our bulldogs back at school on our first day, August 29th. Administrators, counselors, teachers, custodians, and staff have been working hard this summer to ensure a great start to the school year.

This school year will focus on achieving our school’s mission: To guide students to discover, pursue, and connect to their post-secondary dreams.  Whether that means acceptance to a technical college, a four-year university, the military, or industry certification to begin a career, our main mission at Holmes High School is to ensure that all students are ready to excel at the next level.

To achieve this mission, we will teach all students and staff in the building the Bulldog Way, by exemplifying Honor, Humanity, and Scholarship each day.  Students will engage in rigorous academic content while also having the opportunity to work as leaders, communicators, and critical thinkers on a daily basis.

To help ensure the success of our mission, we have made a few positive changes to the way Holmes High School will operate this year.

We would like to introduce the newest member of our leadership team, Mr. Tony Perkins. Mr. Perkins brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Holmes High School, and he is excited to work with students and staff to ensure everyone is following the Bulldog Way every day.

In order for students to show Honor to their school, to each other, and to themselves, we have changed the dress code expectations for this year. Holmes High School is a professional setting where students learn to conduct themselves as productive adults, and we expect students to dress accordingly. This includes not wearing hats/hoodies, pajamas, clothes that expose undergarments, etc.

In order to display Humanity to the Bulldog community, all cell phones, bookbags, purses, etc. must be left in the student’s locker throughout the duration of the school day. Cell phones have become an overwhelming distraction in the classroom, and we will not be able to reach our mission with such a distraction. Cell phones have also posed a safety risk because of social media posts and messages sent during the school day. Bookbags, purses, etc. also pose a safety risk and must be stored in the student’s locker throughout the day. Please see the enclosed documents for additional information about our new cell phone and dress code policies. We are confident that without the distraction of cell phones and without the safety risk of the bags, teachers and students will be able to display the Honor, Humanity, and Scholarship needed to reach our mission.

In order to exemplify Scholarship, we knew that our academic resources needed to be updated.  We have purchased new textbooks, consumable texts, and digital resources for our English, Science, Math, and Social Studies classrooms so that all students will have the opportunity to engage in first-class learning experiences. We have also ordered new iPads, along with cases and keyboards, for all of our students to ensure all students have the most up-to-date technology at their fingertips. Our teachers and staff are prepared to provide the excellent education our students deserve on day one.

Holmes High School is a special place. Our students are intelligent, kind, caring, generous, funny, musical, artistic, hard-working, athletic, accepting, respectful, and full of potential. We are excited to work with all of our staff and students to help each student realize their potential and to guide students to discover, pursue, and connect to their post-secondary dreams.

As always, please feel free to reach out to your grade level administrator, counselor, or to either of us with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you,

Mr. Tony Magner & Mrs. Angela Turnick
