This school year the Nutrition Services department will be participating in a Harvest of the Month/Farm to School program. Farm to School is a program that connects schools and local products, helps students learn about the path of food from farm to fork, and supports local farmers. Harvest of the Month and Farm to School aim to increase consumption of locally grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables by connecting growers to their communities, educating our students on the benefits of a healthy diet, and promoting an overall healthy lifestyle.
Once a month, during lunch, students will sample a fruit or vegetable item grown on a local farm. This month’s featured item is green bell peppers grown on Courtney Farms in Bagdad, Ky. We encourage all of our students to try the most popular sweet pepper in the United States! See the picture below for each month's featured fruit or vegetable.
