Letter from Mrs. Turnick and Mr. Magner,

Dear Class of 2020,

We miss the laughter and smiles that each of you bring to our lives each day.  We know that you did not picture a pandemic as part of your senior year of high school. However, many staff members have been working very hard to make your senior celebrations memorable.  We have taken the results of our recent survey for seniors and their parents to create a Holmes High School Graduation experience that will be something that you will be able to enjoy for a lifetime.

Each week between now and graduation walks, we will send Class of 2020 updates related to ALL the events below and additional details about tech drop off, packet work drop off times, and student belonging pick-ups. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Magner or Mrs. Turnick via email or at school at 655-9545.

Thanks,

Mrs. Turnick

Mr. Magner

This year's graduation will be a hybrid in-person AND virtual experience thanks to the support of Mr. Garrison and our Board of Education.

HOW

A professional videographer will film each portion of the ceremony in small increments using scheduled appointments and following social distancing guidelines on scheduled days leading up to June 5th, 2020.

WHAT

Presentation of the Diploma

Each student will be assigned an appointment on 5/26, 5/27, or 5/28 to walk the Holmes High School graduation walk down the famed stairs and across the football field to the stage, they will cross the stage in their cap and gown at the calling of their name in the presence of no more than four family members to receive their diploma and walk off the stage. (In order to ensure we follow all social distancing guidelines, we must limit the # of family members who can witness the walk.  Please know that only four family members will be allowed to enter the stadium.)

Staff Member & Diploma Presentation

Each senior who participates will select a staff member (districtwide) whom they would like to be present as they walk across the stage. Please make sure that you have confirmed your selection with Ms. Lykins at amber.lykins@covington.kyschools.us by May 15th.

Speeches by District and School Leaders & Student Honorees (Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Pledge of Allegiance)

Each person who would normally speak during graduation will be scheduled on or before 5/26, 5/27, 5/28 in traditional graduation garb giving their speech.

The Graduation Program

The final compilation of the graduation program will follow a traditional graduation program and students will receive traditional hard copies of the program when they arrive to complete their graduation walk. All seniors will receive a DVD copy of the ceremony as well.

WHY

We have made every effort to ensure that as many Holmes High School Graduation traditions as possible are preserved and students will have memories and memorabilia that they can look back on in celebration. We believe our students are important, and we want to do everything we can to make sure that despite what is happening in the world we give them a unique and special celebration.
