May 18th, 2020
Dear Class of 2020,
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We are so proud of all of your accomplishments over the past 12 years. B. B. King once said, “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” The learning that has been achieved will remain with you as you move confidently in the direction of your post-secondary dreams. We can’t wait to celebrate with each of you as you participate in your graduation walk. This past weekend, Ms. Lykins sent all students the date and time of their graduation walk, as well as important safety guidelines to ensure we meet all requirements of the Kentucky Department of Health. Please be sure to read this letter carefully and share all important information with your family. We know this is a monumental moment in your educational career and we want to ensure those present can participate safely in this moment with you.
ALL the information about tech drop off, packet work drop off times, and student belonging pick-ups has been updated below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Magner or Mrs. Turnick via email or at school at 655-9545.
We look forward to seeing each of you soon!
This year's graduation will be a hybrid in-person AND virtual experience thanks to the support of Mr. Garrison and our Board of Education.
A professional videographer will film each portion of the ceremony in small increments using scheduled appointments and following social distancing guidelines. All students should have received their date and time in an email from Ms. Lykins. Please reach out to Ms. Lykins if you did not receive your email or are unable to access your email account. The final compilation will be aired for all to view on June 5th at 7:00pm on our district webpage and on youtube.Links will be provided at a later date. In addition, all students will receive a DVD copy of the ceremony.
Presentation of the Diploma
Each student has been assigned an appointment on 5/26, 5/27, or 5/28 to walk the Holmes High School graduation walk down the famed stairs and across the football field to the stage. Once students arrive on campus, they will be guided by a graduation volunteer to a designated parking or staging spot. A volunteer will provide each student with all of their cords and stoles (if applicable) to wear with their cap and gown. Please spend a few minutes while you are waiting to exit your car placing all of these items over top of your cap and gown.
Once you have been asked to exit your vehicle, please head toward the stadium stairs near the field house. Someone will be waiting there to guide you to your next staging area. The four guests of each student will be guided by a graduation volunteer to the stadium. Every guest will get a front row seat to view their graduate’s walk. Students will cross the stage in their cap and gown or dress clothes at the calling of their name. (In order to ensure we follow all social distancing guidelines, we must limit the # of family members who can witness the walk. Please know that only four family members will be allowed to enter the stadium.) All graduates will be provided with a custom Holmes High School class of 2020 mask to wear as they cross the stage. Guests of our graduates in attendance should wear a self-provided mask as well.
After completing the walk, you will be asked to pause for a picture with Ms. Wood. Students will be encouraged to remove their mask for their picture. Once you have rejoined your family after exiting the field, please proceed to the exit of the stadium to ensure the next student can begin their walk at their scheduled time. Graduation volunteers will be present to guide students and their guests. They will be able to assist you with any concerns or questions you may have as you participate in your walk.
Staff Member & Diploma Presentation
Each senior who participates will select a staff member (districtwide) who they would like to be present as they walk across the stage. Remember that to ensure we follow all necessary safety precautions, we are asking seniors to wave to their presenter as they walk across the stage. We would love to permit handshakes and hugs, but want to ensure we encourage social distancing as we honor this important tradition for you and your presenter. If you have any gifts for your presenter or cards, we ask that you exchange those at a later date or send via US mail.
Speeches by District and School Leaders & Student Honorees (Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Pledge of Allegiance)
The valedictorian and the salutatorian will be notified on Wednesday, May 20th, after final grades are posted. We will include additional time in your graduation walks for you to deliver your speeches. You may keep your Macbooks till the 29th to ensure you have time to complete your speeches and send for approval to Mr. Magner and Mrs. Turnick by Saturday, May 23rd.
The Graduation Program
The final compilation of the graduation program will follow a traditional graduation program and students will hard copies of the program when they pick up their diplomas. Due to printing services being delayed all programs and official copies of diplomas will be available in June.

Please reach out to Ms. Wood at email@example.com if you have not had your photo taken for the yearbook. The district is also working on a surprise for our class of 2020 that requires a photo of each graduating senior.
We have made every effort to ensure that as many Holmes High School Graduation traditions as possible are preserved and students will have memories and memorabilia that they can look back on in celebration. We believe our students are outstanding, and we want to do everything we can to make sure that despite what is happening in the world we give them a unique and memorable celebration.
